Michker N. Edwards

SVG Programme Coordinator

Michker N. Edwards is a passionate educator in the field of General Agriculture, having dedicated fifteen years to this area of expertise. Born and raised in the Grenadines, Ms. Edward’s heart lies in agriculture, and she has pursued this passion as a part-time farmer and ambitious agri-preneur. With a strong desire to contribute holistically to the development of the agricultural sector in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, she aims to make a positive impact "from the faculty to the fields" and "from the effort to the enterprise."

Among her agricultural pursuits, Ms. Edwards is deeply involved in Pineapple production, as well as Product Development and Postharvest Technology. Beyond her personal ventures, she generously volunteers her services to various farmers' cooperatives, women, and youth groups in rural parts of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Her focus is on Product Development, Sustainable Agri-culture, and post-harvest technologies, which she sees as essential components in ensuring the nation's food security, nutrition, and providing gainful employment for the citizens of SVG.

Aside from her agricultural endeavors, Ms. Edwards takes pride in being a dedicated Rotarian, actively participating in various community activities. S he holds an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Agriculture from the College of Science and Technology of Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (Eastern Caribbean Institute of Agriculture and Forestry), as well as a Bachelor of Science in General Agriculture from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine.

Ms. Edward’s ultimate goal is to collaborate with rural groups to develop export-ready agricultural products. These products would not only cater to local hotels but also be exported to other countries, thereby expanding opportunities and contributing to the reduction of poverty in the region. Additionally, she aims to promote Gastronomic Tourism in the rural areas, with a special focus on empowering Vincentian women. Through her dedication and expertise, Ms. Edwards aspires to create a positive impact on the agricultural landscape and overall socio-economic development of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

“It is my thought that when the livelihood of Farmers and the Youths increases, so does the economy of Country”.
